Alaska Day Festival
Panel Set to Meet
The Alaska Day Festival Committee will meet to begin planning for the Alaska Day Festival 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, at Centennial Hall.
The group will elect officers and trustees and seek a theme for the festival.
The public is encouraged and invited to attend.
Tribal Council
Meeting Jan. 18
Sitka Tribe of Alaska Tribal Council will meet 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at 204 Siginaka Way, third floor Executive Board room, or by Zoom.
The meeting agenda and Zoom link are available on the STA webpage at www.sitkatribe.org. The council will review, on first reading, revisions to the Baranof Island Housing Ordinance.
A copy of the ordinance is available upon request or on the webpage. Persons who wish to comment can request to be added to the agenda by emailing: anne.davis@sitkatribe-nsn.gov, no later than Jan. 17.
SAFV Board Meets
The board of Sitkans Against Family Violence will meet 6:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19. The meeting is open to the public. Email director@safv.org for directions.
City League VB
Registration Open
Registration for the upcoming Parks and Recreation city league volleyball season is open. It starts Sunday, Jan. 29. The cost is $75 per player.
Team sponsor cost is $450 per team. All divisions are co-ed. Players/teams can compete in the power, upper or lower divisions.
Players and team sponsors can register and pay online by going to https://www.recreationatcityofsitka.com. Visit the Parks and Recreation page at www.cityofsitka.com for a printable registration form.
Forms also can be picked up at the Parks and Recreation office at Blatchley Middle School. Payment can be made online, at the utility office on first floor of City Hall, or at the Parks and Recreation office.
All payments and registrations are to be turned in before play.

American Legion
Officer to Visit
American Legion Services Officer Phil Templin will be doing an outreach visit 2-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Sitka Job Center, 304 Lake St Room 101.
Templin will be available to provide assistance with veteran disability benefits to all qualified veterans.
In-Person Preschool
Story Time Jan. 19
The next preschool story-time at Sitka Public Library will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 19.
The program will feature ‘‘We March’’ by Shane W. Evans, a picture book about the 1963 March on Washington for jobs and freedom that ended with Martin Luther King Jr.’s historic “I Have a Dream” speech.
