BIHA Board Meets

Baranof Island Housing Authority board of commissioners will meet 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, via Zoom.

Winter Book

Club Scheduled

The Sitka National Historical Park and Sitka Public Library invite ages 7 to 9 to join the Read with a Ranger Library Winter Book Club.

The club is a mix of Grab N Go and an online hour program. Participants will receive a free kit with materials to enjoy during an hour of reading and activities lead by a park ranger and a librarian.

Topics will be flora and fauna of the region, and famous women in history. The first session will be Saturday, Feb. 19. Registration is open at 747 4020 or by e-mailing Maite at maite.lorente@cityofsitka.org.

Services Pending

Patricia Jo Diamond, 78, died Friday, Jan. 14, at home.

A full obituary will be printed in the Sentinel for the longtime Sitka resident.

 

 

On Dean’s List

University of Wisconsin Oshkosh officials have released the names of students who qualified for the fall 2021 dean’s list and honor roll across its three campuses – Fond du Lac, Fox Cities and Oshkosh.

Kimberly Nekeferoff has been named to the dean’s list. Walter Palof is on the honor roll.

The grade-point average requirement for university honor roll is 3.3; and 3.75 for dean’s list.

To qualify, a student must have been enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits.

 

ALFA to Meet to

Discuss Halibut

Alaska Longline Fishermen’s Association will host a virtual Zoom meeting 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, to discuss 2022 halibut projections, catch limit recommendations and regulatory proposals.

Other topics will include: potential extension of COVID IFQ transfer provisions and Halibut Catch Share Plan Review. Sitka Pioneers of Alaska will mark its 101st year with a ‘‘mug-up and meet-and-greet’’ 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, at the Westmark Sitka banquet room 1.

Grand Igloo President Virgil Campbell will be in attendance. COVID protocols will be observed.
