Masks on Sale
At White E Shop

Reusable Bag
Library in Place
The reusable bag libraries are back at AC Lakeside and Sea Mart grocery stores.
Sitkans who find themselves at the checkout without a reusable bag can again visit the bag library and borrow clean, reusable ones for their groceries.
The bag libraries are similar to a regular library, but instead of books, shoppers can borrow bags from the slot at the bottom and return them, clean and dry, by dropping them through the hatch at the top of the box.
Sitkans with excess clean reusable bags can donate them – now and in the future – by dropping them into a bag library at either supermarket.
Shoppers should look for the bright yellow and black wooden box at the end of the checkout counters for reusuable bags. People with questions can contact Bags For Change at 747-2708.
Crescent Harbor
Construction Set
Due to construction planned for the Crescent Harbor float replacement project in the coming week, pedestrian traffic routes along the nearby Sea Walk and access to Floats 5, 6 and 7 will continue to be impacted.
The city public works department said the parking lot across from 709 Lincoln Street will be closed, as well. Turnagain Marine Contractors will post traffic control signs at critical areas along the Sea Walk and at the entrance to the Crescent Harbor ramps and the parking lot.
A crane will be operating in the Crescent Harbor parking lot, just north of the shelter. This will limit parking adjacent to the work, the city said.
Pile drilling and driving is to begin this week.
‘‘This work is noisy, but is limited roughly to daylight hours,’’ the public works department said.
TMC is in the process of demolishing Crescent Harbor Floats 1 through 4 ahead of replacement of the floats, headwalks and gangways. Electrical and water services also will be replaced. TMC expects float installation to be complete in March, with electrical and utility work to follow.
Other parking and pedestrian access changes will be needed over the course of the project. Those changes will be posted on the City and Borough of Sitka web site (https://www.cityofsitka.com/), on the city Facebook page, and shared with local media outlets. Call Public Works with any questions at 747-1804.
