Calvary Chapel

To Meet Sunday

Calvary Chapel Sitka’s special New Year’s message will be “Overcoming Evil with Love As Jesus Did.”

Land Trust Sets

Annual Meeting

The Sitka Community Land Trust will hold its annual meeting and potluck dinner 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Centennial Hall.

The public is being encouraged to attend. Board members will be updating the strategic plan. The SCLT is a non-profit organization that relies on community support and participation. For information contact Mim McConnell at 738-2888. 

 

Winter Pistol

Leagues Offered

The Sitka Sportsman’s Association’s winter pistol leagues are starting soon for both men and women.

A rimfire (.22) and a centerfire league will be held. Signups, range familiarization and practice will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16. The rimfire league will be on Tuesdays, starting Jan. 22, and the centerfire league will be on Thursdays, starting Jan. 24. Both leagues start at 7 p.m. and will run for 12 weeks.

Cost for participating in the league is $35. Shooters must also be a member of the Sportsman’s Association ($30/year) and have a valid Shooter’s Insurance Card ($40/year). The indoor range is located at 5211 Halibut Point Road, on the left, just before the ferry terminal. Anyone with questions can contact Steve at 738-7267 or ramp@gci.net. 

          

SSA to Hold

Annual Meet

Sitka Sportsman’s Association will hold its annual general meeting and board elections 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at 5211 Halibut Point Road.

Alpine Adventure

Run to Register

Registration for the 26th running of the Alpine Adventure run opens 7 a.m. Alaska Time on April 24. The registration fee is $40 and includes a T-shirt.

The race is scheduled for July 20 and is limited to 85 participants. It’s a challenging seven-mile course, starts at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, proceeds up Gavan Hill and along the Harbor Mountain rim to the picnic area on Harbor Mountain. Runners must be at least age 15 and be able to complete the mountain course in 2.5 hours.

The run is conducted under a special use permit with the Tongass National Forest. For information contact Chris Horan, 747-6471, or email christinemariehoran@gmail.com.

 

Medvejie Solstice

Run on June 22

The 14th running of the Medvejie/Solstice Races will be 9 a.m. Saturday, June 22. The three distance events – half-marathon, 10K and 5K races – will start and end at Herring Cove.

Pre-registration is 4-7 p.m. June 21 at Sitka High School commons. On race day, registration starts at 8:15 a.m. at Herring Cove.

The race is a fundraiser for Sitka High track and cross country teams. Registration fees are: $20 for the 5K, $30 for the 10K, and $40 for the half-marathon. The first 75 entrants are guaranteed a non-cotton T-shirt.

The Sitka Tribe of Alaska’s Natural Resource Committee will meet 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at the Resource Protection Department, 429 Katlian St.
