Story Time Set 

The next preschool story time at Sitka Public Library will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2.

The program’s theme is “Colors of Africa.” For information call Maite at 747-4022. 

 

Library Teen

Board to Meet

Sitka Public Library’s Teen Advisory Board will meet 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at the library. 

All teens 13 to 16 years old are invited to join the TAB. Board members will have exclusive opportunity to help select materials for the library’s collection, plan programs, gain volunteer experience, and promote the library throughout the community. Babies and Books

Program Feb. 18

Sitka Babies and Books invites families of kids ages birth to 4 to a Love is a Ball program at the Sitka Public Library. The event will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18. Children, parents and caregivers are welcome to a morning of readings and activities.

Registration is required to receive a copy of a free book about the program’s theme. Books are purchased with a grant from Sitka Legacy Foundation, an affiliate of the Alaska Community Foundation.

Drawing Club

Open to Youths

The city Parks and Recreation will offer a drawing club 2:30-3:50 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, in room 9 at Keet Gooshi Heen Elementary School.

Drawing Club is open to youths in  grades three through five. Drawing club will be led by Parks and Recreation staff and local artists.

The cost is $9.52 plus sales tax. Scholarships are available. Online registration is available at recreationatcityofsitka.com. Fillable, printable registration forms are available on the parks and recreation page at cityofsitka.com. 4-H Club Event

On Berry Painting

Tongass Cloverbuds will have a berry painting event 3:30-5 p.m. Feb. 1 at Sitka Lutheran Church.

Ages 5-7 can join the Sitka Conservation Society’s Alaska Way of Life 4-H Club. Contact Anna at anna@sitkawild.org for information or to register.

 

4-H Art Series

Slated for Youths

Sitka Conservation Society’s Alaska Way of Life club will host a Love for the Tongass art series.

The program is open to 4-Hers ages 7-18 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Feb. 8, 15 and 22 at Sitka Lutheran Church unless otherwise noted.

Activities will include jewelry making with natural materials, skin-sewing and others.

Sprockets Bike

Club Meets Feb. 7

Ages 7-12 can join Sitka Conservation Society’s Alaska Way of Life club and the Salty Spoke Bike Coop for Sprockets Bike Club 3:30-5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Salty Spoke Bike Coop.

The club meets for bike maintenance and related workshops. All skill and experience levels are welcome with and without a bike.

Pistol League

Registration On

Winter Pistol Leagues are starting in February at Sitka Sportsman’s Association.

‘‘Come and join us at the indoor pistol range for some fun, practice and maybe a little competition,’’ the association said.

Rimfire league will be 7 p.m. Tuesdays starting Feb. 28.

Centerfire league will be 7 p.m. Thursdays starting March 2. Both leagues will run for 10 weeks.

Signups and practice for both leagues run 6-9 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 22 and 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, Feb. 25.

Sitka Sportsman’s Association is located at 5211 Halibut Point Road.

The cost for the league is $50. A participant must be a member of the Association, $50 per year, and have a current shooters insurance card, $50 per year.

City League VB

Meet, Play Set

City Parks and Recreation will hold a meeting for registered teams and players for the City League volleyball season 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Blatchley Middle School.

Topics will include the season schedule, rules, and upcoming open gym dates and times.

Open gym for registered teams and players will be offered in the BMS main gym 7:45-9:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, and Wednesday, Feb. 1.
