Chair Yoga Set

Southeast seniors can join free chair yoga classes with SEARHC and Sue Conrad, certified personal trainer and group exercise instructor.

Classes will be 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays Jan. 19 through Feb. 25 via Zoom. No experience is necessary and participants can join at any time during the series.

Tribal Council

Opening Listed

Sitka Tribe of Alaska is seeking  Tribal Citizens to fill an unexpired term  on the STA Tribal Council.

The appointment will expire Nov. 30. Those interested in serving must submit council vacancy materials (a letter of interest, certification of eligibility and authorization for criminal

background check) to Lisa Gassman, general manager, Tribal Council vacancy, 456 Katlian Street, Sitka, AK 99835.

Materials are available on the STA Webpage at www.sitkatribe.org or can be emailed by request. Materials must be received by 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14. Those with questions can contact Lisa Gassman at 747-3207.

 

Climate Lobby

Meeting on Tap

Sitka Citizens Climate Lobby will hold its nonpartisan meeting 9:45-11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, via Zoom. The national meeting will precede via Zoom at 9 a.m. and features Dr. Noah Kaufman, an economist at Columbia University.

He authored an article in August confirming the economic and environmental effectiveness of the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act which will be reintroduced in the new Congress to advance putting a revenue-neutral fee on fossil fuels and dividend for American households.

4-H Advocacy

Workshop Listed

Sitka 4-H and Southeast Alaska Independent Living will host an interactive Zoom advocacy and empathy workshop 4-5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11.

Through art, video, and conversation, participants will learn more about disability awareness and empathy. All ages are invited.

Has Sitka Story

Points of Light, in partnership with Morehouse College, is providing a national webinar as part the Listen, Learn, and Act to End Racism initiative 9 a.m.-10:15 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12.  

The free webinar, ‘‘Racial Healing: Understanding Racial Identity, Systemic Racism, and How to Become a Racial Ally,’’ will be led by ‘‘Racial Healing Handbook’’ author Anneliese Singh, Ph.D., LPC.

The community impact story, at the beginning of the webinar, will feature Sitka and will include an overview of the Sitka Reads 2020 initiative as well as Sitka’s Project 108: from colony to community.

Sitkan to Speak on

Ethiopia Travels

Ernest Manewal will speak and show photos from his travels in Ethiopia 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, as part of Sitka Public Library’s Armchair Travels Speaker Series and will be held via Zoom.

Advisory to Meet

The Sitka Fish and Game Advisory Committee will hold two meetings this month via Zoom.

A special meeting on the Joint Board Committee Discussion on Scheduling Due to COVID-19 is slated 6 p.m.  Jan. 13, and a regular advisory committee  meeting and member election is set 6 p.m. Jan. 20.

The special Jan. 13 meeting is limited to comments on the Joint Board Committee Discussion on Scheduling Due to COVID-19, regular business will take place at the following Jan. 20 meeting.
