Protest Tuesday
A Sitka #ClosetheCamps protest to demand the closure of inhumane child detention centers will be noon Tuesday at the roundabout.
Protesters will assemble and call on members of Congress to close the camps, refuse to authorize any more funding for family detention and deportation, and visit detention camps, organizers said.

Chamber to Meet
Film producer and director Helena Sardinha, who is working on a Sitka television show and is teaching at the Sitka Fine Arts Camp, will speak at the Chamber of Commerce luncheon noon Wednesday at Westmark Sitka.

Anxiety, Depression
Presentation Set
Elisa Hope will give a presentation on ‘‘Understanding and Responding to Anxiety and Depression’’ 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, at Grace Harbor Church auditorium.
Hope is a graduate of Sitka High School. She was graduated with a psychology major from Seattle Pacific University, and did her graduate work at George Fox University. She is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Washington and is in private practice in Walla Walla, where she also shares in ministry with her husband, Brian, at Mission Church.
Rotary to Meet
‘‘A Fourth of July Message from the Past’’ will be presented by Rich McClear at the Sitka Rotary Club meeting noon Tuesday at Westmark Sitka.
The public is invited. Lunch is available.
Elks Booths Up
For 4th of July
The annual 4th of July booth is up and running at the Sitka Elks Lodge.
Taco boats, cheeseburgers, hamburgers and Lloyd and Austin’s hand-dipped Nathan’s corn dogs will be served.
A bake sale table is set up with all proceeds being donated to Kai Olney-Miller. Donations are being accepted.
Booth hours for the week are: 11 a.m.-7 p.m. today; 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday; 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Wednesday; and 11 a.m. until sold out on Thursday.
Fourth of July
Events Slated at
Totem Square
Sitka Historical Society will host Fourth of July events July 3-4 at Totem Square.
Food booths will be open 10 a.m.-midnight both days.
On July 3, an open mic for all musicians will be noon-5 p.m. Call 738-3766 to reserve stage time. A street dance with live bands is 7 p.m.-midnight at the Petro Marine warehouse dock on Lincoln Street. Beer and wine will be available to those 21 and older.
On July 4, old time children’s games for ages 4-17 years will follow the parade. No registration is necessary and all games are free. Activities include gunny sack races, 3-legged races, wheelbarrow races, bicycle decorating contest, greased pole climb, egg toss, pie-eating contest, hoop and stick races, relays, toddler games and more. An open mic is slated noon-7 p.m.
Contributing sponsors are First Bank, Petro Marine Services, Silver Bay Seafoods, Allen Marine and Sitka Tribe of Alaska.
Youth Soccer
Program to Run
Sitka’s Youth Soccer Program, under the umbrella of Ketchikan Youth Soccer, will be July 1-Aug. 21 at Kimsham Field. Focus is on three-versus-three games, drills and skill practices.
Grades 1-3 will practice 4:30-5:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Grades 4-8 will practice 4:30-6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.

Trap Shooters
Given Notice
Sitka Sportsman’s Association has registered with Pacific International Trapshooting Association for individuals to shoot in the Summer Multiplex.
Sitka Sportsman’s Association will be open 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, for Multiplex Trap shooting.
These are 12-gauge events consisting of 50 singles, 50 handicap and 25 pair of doubles. Scores are registered with PITA and shooters must be a member of PITA. Shoot in one, two or all three events, and “Shoot for the Lewis,” where there is always a potential to win big.
The cost is $21.50 per event, $8 daily fee, and the ammo.

Barn Dance Set
For Fourth of July
A free community barn dance is set 11 a.m. Thursday, July 4, at the Crescent Harbor shelter.
Live music will be provided by Sitka’s Fishing for Cats band.
Beginners and seasoned dancers of all ages are invited. Dances are taught and called. No partner is needed, and no dancing experience is necessary.

Outdoor Bootcamp
Set Wednesday
Hames Center will offer an outdoor July bootcamp class “Summer Circuits” beginning July 3. Classes are held 6-6:45 a.m. Wednesdays and led by Dawn Johnson.

Benefit Walk for
Fish to Schools
The Stride 365 5K run/walk benefit for Fish to Schools will be July 6 beginning at the O’Connell Bridge lightering facility. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the race is at 9:30 a.m.
The $10 registration fee/donation will benefit the Sitka Conservation Society’s Fish to Schools
