Uncommon Music

Festival in Sitka

The Uncommon Music Festival will be held in August in Sitka. 

Locations and duration are limited to ensure safety. Attendees are to RSVP to bit.ly/UMF2021 for each event.

The schedule will include:

– Thursday, Aug. 5, 7 p.m., Uncommon Music Festival organist Jacob Reed recital on the 1844 Kessler Organ at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.

– Friday, Aug. 6, 7 p.m., Uncommon Music Festival guitarist-and-more Joshua Stauffer plays radiant music from the 17th century at St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church.

– Saturday, Aug. 7, 1 p.m., Uncommon Music Festival musicians perform favorites from five years of music for Sitka, at St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church.

– Saturday, Aug. 7, 7 p.m., meet the Uncommon Music Festival at the visitor center of the Sitka National Historical Park for a walk through the woods with music along the way. Presented with the Sitka Sound Science Center. 

– Sunday, Aug. 8, 1 p.m., the Uncommon Music Festival presents sacred music composed by women throughout history alongside readings, poetry and prayers selected by the Rev. Julie Platson.

 

Utility Office

Closure Noted

The City and Borough of Sitka Utility/Payment office will be temporarily closed to in-person services. All services are available via phone, email, or for cash payments, by appointment. 

For service, call the utility/payment office at 747-1818 or email utilities@cityofsitka.org.

To contact the tax office, call 747-1840. The payment plan line is 747-1859.

Utility payments may be made online, via telephone for credit card payments, or mailed to or dropped by City Hall in the payment box outside of the building or the box inside, located next to the utility/payment office.

If possible, make payments online or via mail, the city requested. If a call is not answered, leave a message and someone will return it as soon as possible.

 

Mariner’s First Aid,

CPR Class on Tap

The Alaska Marine Safety Education Association will offer a Mariner’s First Aid & CPR/AED class 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Aug. 7 at 1308 Sawmill Creek Road.

The cost for the class is $125, including sales tax. Mariners may register online at www.amsea.org or call 747-3287.

It will cover CPR & automatic external defibrillators (AED); treatment of choking; medical emergencies; trauma; environmental hazards; patient assessment; medical communications; drowning and hypothermia; and common fishing injuries. Attendees will receive a U.S. Coast Guard accepted, two-year certificate issued by the American Safety and Health Institute.

 

 

Surprise Book

Bundles Offered

Sitka Public Library is offering surprise book bundles for youths of all ages.

To participate in this readers advisory program call 747 4020 or e-mail maite.lorente@cityofsitka.org to share preferred genre or theme, library card number and age. Once the surprise bundle is ready, participants can stop by to pick it up anytime at the library. Items will be already checked out to them.
