Host 48-Hour

Film Contest

Registration is now open for the 48-Hour Film Festival for amateur filmmakers, sponsored by the Sitka Film Society and the Coliseum Theater.

In the contest, filmmakers will have 48 hours to make a short film containing three elements that will be assigned to them by the organizers: a line of dialogue, a character and a prop.

Once you have signed up, you can choose when to begin your 48-hour time frame. At that time, the organizers will reveal to your filmmaking team the three elements that must appear in your film.

All films must be completed by July 10 and will then be screened 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, at the Coliseum Theater. Signups can be reached through  facebook.com/SitkaFilmSociety/, or using the QR code on the poster. Those with questions may call 907-738-0602.

Especially appreciate mileage donated and loving words by the Gajaa Heen Dancers for relatives to travel and provide comfort. Martin Jr. grew up with the dancers learning valuable life lessons from his culture. Gunalchéesh for your unwavering support, as Martin Jr. thought of all of you as family:  brothers, sisters and teachers.

He is survived by his loving wife, Cherie, of 34 years, his son Tyler and daughter Shelby, his sister Sara, sister Martina, mother Marcia (Kiks.adi, Clay House), nephew Benny Mancil, nieces Lila Ruhle and  Denali Ruhle, and nephew Gary Brooks.

Gone before him in 2008 was his Dad, Martin Strand Sr. (K’waach’), Kaagwaantaan, Snail House.

Martin’s passing was so unexpected and we are missing him so much. Thank you for showing your love and care.
