Commuter Bike
Workshop June 30
A free workshop on commuting to work by bike and utility cycling – using a bicycle for transportation – will be held 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 30 at Salty Spoke Bike Co-Op on the SJ Campus.
Participants will receive a $10 gift certificate to the Yellow Jersey Cycle Shop, a bicycle benefits helmet sticker that gets commuters discounts at 12 local business, a helmet if needed, a place to do some basic bike maintenance, educational resources, and Sitka specific riding tips for commuters.
It will include a short ride downtown. The event is supported by the Sitka Cycling Club and SEARHC. For more information or to sign up for one of the 10 spots call SEARHC Health Educator Doug Osborne at 966-8674.
Services July 5
For Mark Bagley
Graveside services for Mark Bagley, 45, will be held 1 p.m. Monday, July 5, at the Sitka Memorial Park. Pastor Sandra Rudd, Sitka Lutheran Church, will officiate.
Mark died December 3, 2020, in Anchorage following heart surgery.
A potluck reception will be held beginning at 4 p.m. at the Halibut Point Recreation Area main shelter.
Those who wish to contribute to a memorial album for his daughter, Ellen, 7, are asked to take written notes or photos to share. The album will be created by Mark’s sister, Laura, for Ellen to enjoy when she’s ready and for years to come.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations by made in Mark’s memory to the Sitka Lutheran Church, Sitka Sound Science Center or charity of their choice.

For Lou Primacio
A service for Lucille “Lou” Marie Primacio, 76, is planned noon-4 p.m. Saturday, June 26, at the Halibut Point Recreation Area, main shelter. An afterhours party is to follow at the Moose Lodge.
Lou, a Sitka resident since 1976, passed away April 27 in Anchorage.

Memorial donations may be made to the Sitka Moose Family Center, marked for the kitchen remodel project. “Our mom really wanted to do something for that kitchen – she spent many volunteered hours in there,” her family said. The address is 337 Lincoln Street, Sitka, AK 99835.

A celebration of life for Betty JoAnne Henning, 86, will be 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, June 27, at the Halibut Point Recreation Area main shelter.

The longtime Sitka resident passed away Saturday, June 19, in Sitka.

Mosquito Cove
Hike on Saturday
Sitka Trail Works invites the public to a free 1.5-mile hike around the Mosquito Cove Loop 9 a.m. Saturday, June 26. STW said the trail is family friendly, easy-to-moderate difficulty with some stairs and can be slippery when wet. Open House Set
At Boatshop
The public can view the recent work on the Japonski Island Boatshop at an open house 1-3 p.m. Saturday, June 26.
Information on methods of historic preservation, and artifacts and photos, will be on view. Coffee and snacks will be available.

Paddle Board
Safety Class Set
The Alaska Marine Safety Education Association will offer a paddle board safety class 8 a.m.-noon June 26 at N.S.R.A.A., 1308 Sawmill Creek Road.
The fee is $30, including sales tax. Paddle boarders may register online at www.amsea.org or call 747-3287.
The class will cover board types, paddles, gear and wetsuits; trip planning, weather and risk assessment; charts, tides and currents; personal flotation devices, cold-water survival skills; distress signals and mayday calls; ‘‘Seven Steps to Survival,’’ survival kits, and more.
The class is an introduction for stand-up paddle board enthusiasts to gain necessary skills for safe paddling in Southeast Alaska waters, AMSEA said.
