For 4th of July

Events Call

The Greater Sitka Chamber of Commerce board has chosen “Red, White & Blue” as the theme for the 4th of July parade.

Grand marshal will be former Sitka Fire Chief Dave Miller, who retired from the City of Sitka in the fall of 2020 and was instrumental in supporting the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The parade will begin at 1 p.m. on July 4. The route begins on Lake Street,  proceeds down Lincoln Street toward City Hall, and ends on Harbor Drive.

Registration is required and forms can be picked up at the Sitka Chamber office at 104 Lake Street, or on the Chamber’s website at sitkachamber.com. Registrations must be submitted by today.

Organizations or groups conducting community events during the festivities, to be held Thursday, July 1 through Sunday, July 4, can have their events listed in this year’s schedule.

A brief description of the event, including start time, location and contact information, should be e-mailed to conventions@sitkachamber.com by today.

Teens, Tweens

Event at Library

Sitka Public Library will offer free ‘‘make-it, take-it’’ kits to tweens 10 years and older June 30-Aug. 7.

The kits highlight maker activities and do-it-yourself type projects. Participants can ask for kits at the circulation desk during library hours. It is a self-guided program, and is part of the Tails and Tales Summer Reading Program.

Hot Dogs, Events

At Catholic Church

St. Gregory’ Catholic Church will sell hot dogs, chips, soda, baked goods and snacks noon-4 p.m. on July 4 at the church.

A fish pond will be set up for the kids. All proceeds will be donated to the Sitka Pregnancy Center.

 

 

Barn Dance

Slated July 3

A free outdoor barn dance is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, July 3, at the Totem Square end of Lincoln Street.

The event is part of Sitka Historical Society’s Old Time 4th of July celebration.

Masks will be optional for fully vaccinated dancers. Sitka’s Fishing for Cats band will provide live music.
