Bartlett Regional Hospital in Juneau announced today that as a condition of employment under a vaccine mandate policy implemented this week, hospital staff must be fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus by December 15, 2021.

“This applies to all employees and contractors on campus, regardless of position or employment status. This policy was implemented as directed by the Board of Directors after receiving guidance from the City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) Law Department and discussions with union leaders,” the hospital said in a news release.

`“We collaborated with union representatives to discuss the impacts of implementing this policy on our employees,” Human Resources Director Dallas Hargrave said.

The announcement said that the policy contains measures to allow staff to request medical or religious exemptions. After discussions with union representatives, the hospital agreed to provide the opportunity for employees to request additional leave if they become symptomatic after receiving a vaccine and have to miss work.

The announcement said that 9 percent – or 71 of Bartlett’s 799 employees and Medical Staff – currently are unvaccinated.
