Posted

By Sentinel Staff
A landslide on Green Lake Road caused a power outage that affected many areas of town, at 12:48 p.m., city staff said this afternoon.
“Power has been fully restored under a combination of diesel generation and Blue Lake hydropower. No injuries were reported,” the city said in a brief news release at 1:53 p.m. “The City and Borough of Sitka will assess and repair damages once it is safe to do so. Please proceed with caution during this high rain event.”
The FAA flight service station reported rainfall totaling 2.29 inches fell between midnight and 2:30 p.m. today, and that the wind gusted at 43 mph at 12:48 p.m.

Exhaust from one of the city’s Jarvis Street diesel generators is seen this afternoon as the generator goes on line following a power outage. (Sentinel Photo)
