‘Painting on Wood’
Session is Online
A Zoom “Painting Whimsy on Wood” session, led by Amy Sweeney, will be held 5-5:30 p.m. March 18.
Sweeney will paint marine and land critters on wood pieces. It is sponsored by Island Artists Gallery.
Experience is not necessary. Participants should have brushes and some acrylic paints. Wood pieces are available at Island Artists Gallery, 205 Lincoln St. Email islandpainter@hotmail.com for more information about supplies needed, to get a wood piece, and to reserve a Zoom invitation.
Island Artists Gallery also features an “Art Challenge.” Each Monday an art prompt is posted on its Instagram page, island_artists_sitka, and Facebook, islandartistsgallery. This week’s prompt is “Reflecting.” Artists can interpret it in any way, and use any medium – including food. Artists should then post their art on their social media page and tag Island Artists Gallery to be entered into a monthly drawing for a gift card.
SCLT Meeting

Hospital Sale is
Discussion Topic
Town meetings to discuss the sale of the former Sitka Community Hospital building and surrounding property is slated 6-8:30 p.m. March 16 and 30 at Centennial Hall.
The Assembly-led discussions will be facilitated opportunities, ‘‘providing time to share what you think are the most important factors the Assembly should consider as they look for sale options,’’ a press release from the city said.

Climate Action
Topic of Meeting
The Sitka Citizens Climate Lobby will attend the national Zoom meeting with speaker Jennifer Burney of the University of California-San Diego at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 13. The topic is global food security and mitigating climate change.
Following the presentation, at 9:45 a.m., the Sitka chapter will meet by Zoom to discuss March lobby strategy, Earth Day plans, and building political will for nonpartisan carbon fee and dividend legislation.

Van Halen Tribute
Concert March 27
Sitka Fine Arts Camp will present ‘‘A Tribute to Eddie Van Halen’’ with local musicians from Smokestack Music Productions and Sam Faustine, last seen in Sitka as Freddie Mercury at the Queen tribute show.
Tickets are available at www.fineartscamp.org for the 25% capacity show, live at the Sitka Performing Arts Center, 7 p.m. March 27. Masks are required.
Livestream tickets also are available. Those who present a copy of their COVID-19 vaccination card at the door will be $5 reimbursed.

Robert Fleitz
Concert March 30
Sitka Fine Arts Camp will present a concert with New York-based pianist Robert Fleitz 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, at the Sitka Performing Arts Center.
The evening will span from Bach to the present day, with works by Brahms, Yaz Lancaster and Liisa Hirsch.

Broadway Night
Slated for April 3
Sitka Fine Arts Camp will host a Night on Broadway 7 p.m. April 3 at the Sitka Performing Arts Center.
Songs will be from smash musicals such as ‘‘Six,’’ ‘‘Into the Woods,’’ ‘‘Chicago’’ and ‘‘Hamilton,’’ featuring local talent Rhiannon Guevin and professional actors Sam Faustine, Jessica Mohr and Branden Noel Thomas, last seen in Sitka for ‘‘Songs for a New World.’’
