Alaska Day Festival

Group to Meet

The Alaska Day Festival committee will meet 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, at  Harrington Centennial Hall.

 

Natural Resource

Panel to Meet

Sitka Tribe of Alaska’s natural resource committee will meet in person at 204 Siginaka Way and on Zoom at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 16.

Mariner’s First Aid,

CPR Class in Sitka

Alaska Marine Safety Education Association will offer a Mariner’s First Aid and CPR/AED class 8 a.m.-3 p.m. March 18 at NSRAA, 1308 Sawmill Creek Road.

Attendees will receive the U.S. Coast Guard-accepted two-year first aid and CPR certification from the American Safety & Health Institute.

The class will cover CPR and automatic external defibrillators; treatment of choking; medical emergencies; trauma; environmental hazards; patient assessment; medical communications; drowning and hypothermia; and common fishing injuries.

 

The cost for the class is $125, including sales tax. Mariners may register online at www.amsea.org or call (907) 747-3287.

 

Kindergarten

‘Sneak Peek’ Set

Baranof Elementary School will hold a kindergarten “Sneak Peek” for the next school year 2-3 p.m. Friday, March 24.

 

Incoming kindergartners can visit with their families or their preschools or daycare centers. Visitors can go to classrooms, talk with teachers and staff, and go on a scavenger hunt to get to know the school.  

 

Tribal Council

Meets March 15

Sitka Tribe of Alaska Tribal Council will hold its regular monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, at 204 Siginaka Way, third floor executive board room, or by Zoom.

The meeting agenda and Zoom link are available on the STA webpage at www.sitkatribe.org. The council will review on third reading, revisions to the Baranof Island Housing ordinance. A copy of the ordinance is available upon request or on the webpage.

Those who wish to comment can request to be added to the agenda by emailing: anne.davis@sitkatribe-nsn.gov, no later than Tuesday, March 14.

 

Energy Audits At

March 18 Expo

A certified energy auditor from Anchorage will be in Sitka March 16-23 for Transition Sitka’s Electrification Expo.

The audit cost is based on square footage and a federal tax credit is available for 30% of the cost up to $150. To sign up, or get more information, contact Carol Voisin at cjvoisin@yahoo.com or attend the expo 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 18 at Centennial Hall to meet him.
