Doris Bailey Dies
Doris M. Chapin Bailey died Saturday, March 13, in Sitka at the age of 87.
Services for the longtime Sitkan will be 11 a.m. March 22 at the National Cemetery.
A full obituary will be published this week in the Sentinel.

Blind Book Event
At Public Library
Sitka Public Library invites readers of all ages to go on a blind date with a book to celebrate Women’s History Month.
Readers can check out a book from the library displays through the month of March. The books have been intentionally selected from curated lists to expand readers’ palette and introduce them to inspiring fiction or non-fiction books about women or by women.

Board to Meet
Sitka Public Library’s Teen Advisory Board will meet online 7 p.m. Friday, March 26.
Teens 13 and older can join the board. TAB members will share ideas about library programs, books and more. Free new books are available.

Acceleration, Native
Academy Updated
Applications for the Alaska Native Science & Engineering Program’s full-time and summer Acceleration Academy components are due on March 19. Whether a student is new to ANSEP’s pipeline or has been enrolled in pre-college components before, all students entering grades nine through 12 are being encouraged to apply for Acceleration Academy. ANSEP’s goal is to operate components in person this summer and fall.
ANSEP also offers a five-week summer Acceleration Academy component May 29-July 2.
