Dies at Age 90

Sue R. Hottinger, a Pioneers Home resident, died Sunday at SEARHC-Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital. She was 90.

 

Legion Auxiliary

Meets March 6

American Legion Auxiliary will have a meeting 7 p.m. March 6 at the American Legion Hall. All members are being encouraged to attend.

 

Legionnaires

Slated to Meet

The American Legion will hold a Legionnaire meeting 7 p.m. March 14 at the Legion Hall. All members are invited.

 

School Board Meets

Sitka School Board will meet 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, at the Sitka High School library.

 

Chamber to Meet

Mayor Gary Paxton will discuss Gov. Dunleavy’s budget impact to Sitka at the Chamber of Commerce luncheon noon Wednesday at Westmark Sitka.

After the overview, Paxton will lead a discussion among luncheon attendees. Following the discussion, the recording will be forwarded to the Alaska Municipal League as part of the feedback from the community of Sitka.

The luncheon is open to the public. 

 

Testimony Taken

At LIO Tuesday

The Senate State Affairs Committee will take public testimony on Senate Bills 23 and 24 regarding Supplemental Permanent Fund Dividend payments  6 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, and if needed, again on Thursday, March 7.

Individuals can testify from the Sitka Legislative Information Office in Totem Square. Sign up begins at 5 p.m. Contact Ken at the Sitka LIO at 747-6276 with questions.

This week, the Alaska Legislature will continue to take testimony on  commercial fishermen’s fund vessel owner claims and various crime bills.

‘14 Miles’ Event

At Public Library

Screening and discussion of the locally produced mini-documentary series 14 Miles will be 6-7 p.m. Friday, March 8, at Sitka Public Library.

‘‘14 Miles is about what challenges us, what we sometimes pass by and what makes us proud to live here,’’ organizers said. ‘‘This is a chance to watch some episodes of 14 Miles: Dispatches from an Island in Alaska live and share feedback.’’

SCLT to Meet

 

The Sitka Community Land Trust will meet 6:15-8:15 p.m. Monday, March 18, at St. Peter’s See House. The public is invited to attend. The SCLT is a non-profit organization that relies on community support and participation. For information contact Mim McConnell at 738-2888.   

Library Friends

Board Sought 

The Friends of Sitka Public Library is seeking dreamers, bibliophiles, creators, tech-users, and teens willing to serve on its board.

All positions are up for election: president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, membership and member-at-large. Terms are two years and will begin on Saturday, April 13, during the annual meeting and bagel breakfast.
