The White Elephant Shop now has baseball clothing and shoes for sale in both stores. Store hours are Thursdays and Saturdays from noon to 3 p.m., and Mondays from 6 to 8 p.m.
Asian Dumplings to Star
In Winter Baking Series
Sitka Kitch will host a Winter Baking Series class on “Dumplings With Serena Tang,” on March 24.
The class on making Asian-style dumplings is the sixth of the new winter series. It will be 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, at the Sitka Kitch community commercial kitchen, in Sitka Lutheran Church.
Along with a broad history of dumplings, participants will learn the basics of making dumplings, the dough, wrappers, fillings, folding them, cooking them, and making sauces to go with them.
The class will focus on Chinese-style cabbage and pork dumplings.
Serena, a law clerk for the Alaska Court System, grew up in Texas with Chinese-Malaysian parents, and has been making dumplings with them since she was a child. She taught a similar class to Sitka Spruce Tips 4-H.
Registration deadline is 11:30 p.m. Sunday, March 22. At least eight students are needed to register and pre-pay for the class to be held. The cost is $40, and can be paid by credit or debit card or PayPal. Check or cash payments can be arranged by calling Chandler O’Connell or Clarice Johnson at Sitka Conservation Society 747-7509.

Sitka Kitch also will host a vegetarian Indian food buffet fundraiser and silent auction from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, at Beak Restaurant. The cost is $40, with all proceeds going to Sitka Kitch.
Youth Soccer
Sign-Up Open
Registration for the Sitka Youth Soccer spring season is now open for kids in grades K-8. Practices will be held on the Upper Moller field on Saturdays at 9:15 a.m., from March 21, to May 16. No soccer experience is necessary. The cost is $25, or $40 for players who need a kit (shorts, socks, shirt). Scholarships are available.
