Scholarships Given by
Sportsman’s Association
Sitka Sportsman’s Association has named Hayden Hunt, Mt. Edgecumbe High School, and Hunter Johnson, Sitka High School, recipients of its Youth Scholarship Program. Each has been awarded a $2,000 certificate to the college of their choice.
Hunt plans to attend Washington State University and study mechanical engineering. Johnson will study electrical maintenance and automation at Spokane Community College.
The SSA scholarship is funded primarily from the Sitka Salmon Derby proceeds and is offered to senior students who reside in Sitka.
Students were asked to submit an essay on “The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution: Why it is important to our nation.”
SSA expressed appreciation to counselors at each high school for help in disseminating the applications and collecting the essays. Sitka Sportsman’s Association is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization and ‘‘is proud to honor its tradition in giving back to the community,’’ a press release said.
The board of Sitka Sportsman’s Association wished Hunt and Johnson success in their educational pursuit and future.
