ANS to Meet
Alaska Native Sisterhood will meet 5:30 p.m. May 25 at the Swan Lake senior housing commons, 404 Hollywood Way.
All members are being encouraged to attend, as this will be the last meeting before summer recess. The ANS will reconvene in September for election of officers, and to begin the new fiscal year. Work Party Set
At the Boatshop
The Sitka Maritime Heritage Society is holding a volunteer work party to restore exterior walls on the Japonski Island Boatshop 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 20.
Volunteers of all skill levels should take gloves and tools. Volunteers are welcome to help out for part or all the time. Project leaders will provide training in historic preservation principles and methods.

On Honor Roll
Lexie Smith of Sitka has been named to Southern New Hampshire University, Manchester, New Hampshire, winter president’s list.
Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.700 and above, earning 12 credits or above, for the reporting term are named to the president’s list.
Aviation Camp
Registration Set
Sitka Parks and Recreation has opened registration for ‘‘Fly the Sky – Intro to Aviation’’ summer camp at www.recreationatcityofsitka.com.
Youths in grades seven and up will learn about aerodynamics, airspace, navigation, and communication from MEHS ground school instructor and private pilot Jack Davis.
Activities include hands-on practice with flight simulators, and field trips. The camp is located at Mt. Edgecumbe High School, and will run 1-4 p.m. June 6-9. The cost is $65 and scholarships are available.

Rock Climbing
Camp Registers
‘‘Introduction to Rock Climbing’’ summer camp registration is open at www.recreationatcityofsitka.com.
Youths in grades five through eight will learn the basics of climbing including knot tying, belaying and basic moves. The camp, sponsored by Sitka Parks and Recreation, will be at the Hames Center climbing wall from 2 to 4 p.m. May 30-June 2 and 9 a.m. to noon June 3.

Corps of Engineers
Set Open House
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Alaska District will hold an informational open house 2:30-5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, at the Sitka Public Library.
Representatives from the Corps’ Regulatory Division will be available to answer questions regarding requirements for placing fill and structures in U.S. waters, including wetlands, and assist with preparing applications.
