‘Midsummer Night’s
Dream’ to be Staged
Sitka Fine Arts Camp will present its final Young Performers Theater productions of the season May 3-5.
‘‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’’ will be presented 7 p.m. May 3-4 at the Odess Theater.
‘‘Rollick with us in this fast-paced, romantically-farcical, gender-swapping adaptation that has been cut down to less than an hour while still preserving Shakespeare’s original poetry,’’ Sitka Fine Arts Camp said.
For younger performers, the modern language adaptation, ‘‘A Midsummer-School’s Daydream,’’ will be staged at 2 p.m. on May 4 and 5 at the Odess Theater. It tells of a group of summer school students must put on a play, despite the fairies and their teachers falling in love.
Tickets are $10 for adults, and $5 for children, and are available at Old Harbor Books, www.fineartscamp.org, and at the door.
Pajama Party
Set for May 4
Families with children ages 0-5 years are invited to a spring pajama party 10:30 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 4, at Centennial Hall.
Bilingual stories, interactive games, fort building, face painting, crafts and snacks will be presented by the Sitka Imagination Library. Attendees can wear pajamas.
Pioneers to Honor
Pioneer Women
Pioneers of Alaska Igloos 22 and 12 will meet 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at United Methodist Church on Kimsham Street.
Men’s Igloo 22 will honor members of Women’s Igloo 12 for their work on behalf of the combined igloo. All Pioneers are invited to participate and contribute to the dinner as desired.
Women of Moose
To Meet May 6
Women of the Moose will hold its first meeting of the new chapter year 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 6, upstairs at the Sitka Moose Lodge.
All new officers and chairs are encouraged to attend. Membership will be divided between the chairs. Calendar of chair dates, and other events, will be discussed as well as the upcoming conference that the lodge and chapter are hosting for Alaska.
WOTM meetings will be held on the first and third Mondays at 6:30 p.m. during the chapter year.
The lodge will host a Mother’s Day breakfast, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. May 12. The lodge is smoke-free, and all family members can attend. For information call Faith at 752-0306, or stop by the lodge.
National Guard
Explorers Gather
The Alaska Army National Guard Explorers will meet 6-9 p.m. May 8 at the Sitka Armory, 1508 Sawmill Creek Road.
High school students between ages 14 and 20 who are interested in learning leadership and skills such as survival, combatives, land navigation, patrol techniques, camouflage self and equipment, and medical should attend. For information contact SFC Justin Mullenix at 907-290-4306.
Family Day at
Hames Center
Hames Center will host its final Family Fun Day of the season 3-5 p.m. Sunday, May 5.

Lunch, Learn Set
In observance of National Bike Month, the Sitka Community Hospital will host an open lunch and learn on local cycling noon-1 p.m. Friday, May 3, at the Sitka Community Hospital classroom.
Topics include getting back into cycling, commuting by bike, Sitka-specific considerations for bikers, the Sitka Cycling Club, and upcoming opportunities for bikers of all ages and levels.

Walk, Run for MS
Slated on May 4
Walk/Run MS Sitka in collaboration with Stride365.com will host an event 10 a.m. May 4. Registration begins at Crescent Harbor shelter at 9:30 a.m.
Walk MS connects people living with multiple sclerosis and those who care about them.
The donations fund research, scholarships and advocacy.
Refreshments will follow at the shelter.

Wildlife Cruise
Slated for May 5
SAIL will host an Allen Marine wildlife and ice cream cruise 1-4:30 p.m. Sunday, May 5. In observance of Mother’s Day, those who purchase a ticket can take their mom for free. Tickets are $50 and available at the SAIL Office, Old Harbor Books, or online at sailinc.org. All proceeds benefit SAIL’s mission of inspiring personal independence for seniors and people experiencing a disability.
SNEP Year-End
Program Friday
Sitka Native Education Program will hold its end of the year program 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 3, at the Performing Arts Center.
Wooch.een Preschool students and those enrolled in kindergarten through 12th grade culture classes will perform with singing, dancing and drumming.
The program will feature a display of traditional art made by students throughout the year.
Music Movers
Perform Tonight
The fourth grade Music Movers will hold a demonstration night 7 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at the Keet Gooshi Heen multipurpose room.
The group will show singing games and dances. Admission is free and open to the public.
Fishermen’s Flea
Market May 11
The annual Fishermen’s Flea Market will be 9 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at the Mt. Edgecumbe High School/UAS-Sitka parking lots.
Those with marine-related items to sell should load up their vehicles and park in front of the MEHS gym prior to 9 a.m.

Quilt Show Set
For May 5-18
Ocean Wave Quilters will host its 37th Annual Quilt Show ‘‘Finally!’’ May 5-18 at Whitmore Hall on the SJ Campus.
The public is invited to view the free exhibit of works created by local quilters, vote for their favorite quilts in various categories, and attend the annual Mother’s Day Tea.
Hours are: 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, May 5, through Saturday, May 18. The Mother’s Day Tea is noon-4 p.m. May 12. The last day of the show is 10 a.m.-3 p.m. May 19. The show opens early, at 10 a.m., on May 9, 10, 11, 15 and 16.
