Avalanche Hazard

Update in Sitka

The City and Borough of Sitka is reporting avalanche activity in the Sitka area.

Avalanche risk remains as long as enough snow is available to slide, which likely will be through the spring and into summer due to deep snowpack in the mountains, the city said today.

The city is encouraging citizens to take precautions outdoors, particularly near avalanche chutes and when traveling on snow.
