Eighty Mt. Edgecumbe High School seniors will graduate in a ceremony to be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Mt. Edgecumbe High School.

Featured speaker will be Yeidikook’aa Dionne Brady-Howard, a teacher and faculty leader who is retiring this year.

An MEHS alum, she is a “diligent advocate for Mt. Edgecumbe High School and her Brave family,” the school said, and will be “missed tremendously.”

Also speaking will be valedictorian Slater Anderson from Sitka, and salutatorian Carrina Campbell of Gambell. Two other speakers, chosen by classmates, will be Eliana Hatch of Chistochino and Ashley Rexford of Kobuk.

The class motto is “We’ve seen a thing or ’23.” Seniors also voted on a class flower, the stargazer lily, and their class colors are red, white, and gold.

Superintendent Suzzuk Huntington will give the welcome and senior advisers will read the names of the graduates. The slide show and awards will be available on video at 9 a.m. Thursday through the school website.

Marshals for the ceremony, juniors chosen by the senior class, are Paaraq Nelson (Koliganek), Cash Arrington (Nome), Tessa Anderson (Sitka), Carliese O’Brien (Bethel), and Sarah Nanouk-Jones (Unalakleet). They will usher in the class of 2023 to the Mt. Edgecumbe Field House Thursday morning. Everyone is invited to watch the live stream from the MEHS website. Limited seating will be available for community members to attend on a first-come, first-served, basis.

Senior class officers are: Peter Griggs, president; Devin Craggette, vice president, Alicia Michels, secretary; Shaedyn Barr, parliamentarian; Zebediah Bergan, treasurer; and Annika Larson, Lillian Miller and Ethan Merculieff, student council representatives.

Following the ceremony, a limited luncheon for graduates and their families will be held in the cafeteria. Baccalaureate will be held at the Sitka Assembly of God church tonight at 7 p.m.
