New COVID Case Fails To Increase Risk Level

Posted

Another positive test result was received Friday from Public Health officials, Sitka Unified Command reports.

The confirmed case is a female resident, age 20-29, who was asymptomatic and received COVID-19 testing on August 21. She now is isolating. Public Health Officials have initiated a contact investigation and will notify and isolate additional persons who may have been in contact with the woman as appropriate, a press release said today.

The newest case brings the cumulative Sitka resident total to 40, and nonresident count to 17.

Sitka’s risk level is at “moderate” – or “orange” - on the Unified Command color code, with a  14-day rolling average of .5 resident cases per day.

The state sets the guideline alert levels for high, moderate and low.

Local guidance for “orange” recommends face coverings indoors, six-foot social distances, outdoor events encouraged, and gatherings limited to 100. Orange recommendations include reduced capacities in restaurants with pickup and delivery encouraged and employees wearing face coverings. For bars, capacities are reduced by 50 percent and “employees must wear mask,” says the guidelines.

Adjusting Sitka’s alert levels using the state model, above 1 per day is “high” alert (“red”) and below .5 per day is “low” or “yellow.”
