With five cases added to Sitka’s COVID dashboard in the last three days, the 14-day rolling average climbed to .79 cases per day.
That leaves Sitka’s risk level for transmission at “moderate.” The current active case count was at seven, and one new hospitalization was added earlier this week, for a total of 6 cumulative hospitalizations.
Monday’s new positive test was for a resident, a symptomatic woman in her 50s, tested that day, with the transmission listed as “community spread.” Three cases on Tuesday were for a female resident in her 20s, tested that day; a symptomatic girl under age 10 tested that day, “secondary”; and a symptomatic woman in her 80s tested the day before, “secondary.” Contact tracing was in progress for a man in his 60s, a resident, whose positive test was taken Monday and returned Wednesday.
The vaccination rate is continuing to climb but the percentage figure on the dashboard is based on the age 16 and up population. Those age 12 and up are eligible for the Pfizer vaccine.
The dashboard lists 5,099 as partially vaccinated, for 73.57 percent; and 4,649 fully vaccinated, for 67.08 percent. The age 16 and up Sitka population numbers 6,931.
The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services posts the percentages for those 12 and up vaccinated.
Based on the 7,385 who are age 12 and up, DHSS says 5,166 are partially vaccinated (70 percent); and 4,692 (64 percent) are fully vaccinated.
