Program Celebrates
Native Heritage
“Celebrating Our Native American Heritage,” a Sitka Babies and Books program, will be held 10-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Sitka Public Library.
Babies, toddlers and preschoolers are invited to a morning of dances, songs and activities led by the Mt. Edgecumbe High School Yup’ik, Athabascan and Inupiaq dance groups.
Everybody can attend.
Sitka 9th Infantry
Continues Recruit
After receiving thanks for their role in Alaska Day Festival, members of the Sitka Ninth Infantry are inviting men to join their ranks preparing for the next event for 1860s uniforms and black powder weapons.
Men firing muskets and pistols in the Alaska Day parade and on Castle Hill included David Curran, Foy Nevers, Justin Nevers, Robert Morris, Danny Spackman, Ted Allio, Dirk White, Bill Ward, Ron Conner, George Hardison, Nic Lewis, Jay Sweeney, Harvey Brandt, Jere Rynearson and Steve Dalquist.

Unitarians Meet
Gretchen Matiatos will give a presentation on the Unitarian Universalist principles and sources which ‘‘provide guidance in the search for truth and meaning’’ 10:45 a.m. Sunday at 408 Marine Street.
The conversation will be about sources that assist individuals along their path. All are invited. The gathering begins at 10:30 a.m. Bread and soup follow at noon. Parking is behind the building on Spruce Street.
‘Recovery Boys’
To be Screened
Sitka Public Library and Sitka Counseling are partnering to present a screening of “Recovery Boys” 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Sitka Public Library multipurpose room.
The documentary follows four men living in a rehab facility in West Virginia working to recover after years of struggling with opioid addiction.
Sitka Counseling clinicians will be on hand to lead a discussion after the film. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, call the library at 747-4025.
Christmas Bazaar
Listed Nov. 26
The annual Christmas Bazaar, sponsored by Sitka Counseling, will be 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, at Centennial Hall.
Admission is $2 for adults. Children 12 and younger are admitted free. Photos with Santa will be 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Energy Assistance
Offered to Natives
Sitka Tribe of Alaska Social Services is administering the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program for Native American/Alaska Natives living in Sitka.
Applications are being accepted for elderly in need of heating assistance. All other households can apply beginning Dec. 1. Applications will be accepted until funds are expended or until May 15, 2019.
