Pack the PAC

On Saturday

 

Friends of the Performing Arts Center invites the public to ‘‘Pack the PAC’’ 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Performing Arts Center.

Sheet’ka Kwaan Naa Kahidi Dancers, Sitka Fine Arts Camp Young Performers Theater, Sitka Cirque, Fireweed Dance Group, Sitka community Theater, Mt. Edgecumbe DDF and Yupik Dancers, Blatchley Jazz Band and ‘‘Nutcracker’’ dancers will perform.

 

Admission is $10 general and $5 for youths. Tickets are at Old Harbor books and at the door. Call 747-3085 for more information.

Thanksgiving

Dinner Planned

Thanksgiving dinner will be served to the community at 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day at the ANB Founders Hall. Doors open at 1 p.m. Alaska Native Brotherhood Camp 1, Alaska Native Sisterhood Camp 4, and Mt. Edgecumbe High School will host the free “Thanks for Giving, Sitka” event. 

Dinner will be cooked and served by students from Mt. Edgecumbe High School. Volunteers are needed to cook turkeys, serve, clean up and drive. Turkeys are provided and can be picked up from the ANB Hall on Tuesday between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. Cooked turkeys can be taken back to the hall 4:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday or 9-11 a.m. Thursday. 

Contact Karen at 747-7803 to volunteer to cook a turkey or to volunteer. 

Servers and drivers can arrive at the Hall at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday to help. Help is needed with cleanup starting at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

Donations can be mailed to 235 Katlian Street, with checks made out to ANB Holiday Dinners. Gift cards to the grocery stores are accepted. Contact Rachel at 505-204-3634 with questions.

 

Thanksgiving Eve

Service at St. Peter’s

St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church will have a Thanksgiving Eve service 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21.

All are invited to attend at 611 Lincoln Street. For information, call 747-3977.

 

Early Education

Survey Continues

The Sitka School District and partners will continue the Early Childhood Survey 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at AC Lakeside.

The short 10-question survey about child care and parenting resources will help set priorities for early childhood programs here. Call Kari at 752-7323 with questions.

At Fall Art Walk

‘‘Faces and Places of Sitka,’’ an exhibition of new, large-scale portraits and landscapes by Stephen Lawrie, will be presented in the building next to Sizzling Chow during the fall art walk 5-8 p.m. Nov. 23.

The work will also hang noon-6 p.m. Nov. 24 and 25. Call 738-7574 with questions.

 

Author, Poet

To Speak Nov. 24

Award-winning author and poet Gina Cole will speak 4-5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at Sitka Public Library.

Cole, who is from New Zealand, is currently the writer-in-residence at the Island Institute. This event is free and open to the public.

Services Nov. 17

For Ethel Staton

Episcopal services for Ethel Louise Staton will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, at St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church. The Rev. Julie Platson and Father David Elsensohn will officiate. 

The reception will be hosted by the Sitka Emblem Club after the service, from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Sitka Elks Lodge.

 

Ethel, 93, passed away quietly in her sleep, while visiting her son, Norm and family, in Juneau on Nov. 7.
