ORCA Suspends

Programming
Southeast Alaska Independent Living’s Outdoor Recreation and Community Access has suspended its in-person programming for the rest of November due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in Sitka, and the governor’s message last week asking citizens to do their part to stop the spread of the virus.
‘‘We want to do our part to keep our community safe,’’ said Maria Sakowski, ORCA coordinator said. ‘‘We will reevaluate the situation at the end of the month, and will send out another update then.’’

To Give Talk
‘‘The Racial Healing Handbook’’ author Anneliese Singh, Ph.D., LPC, will offer a Zoom call talk 7-8:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2.
The presentation on racial healing will be followed by a question-and-answer segment.
The free event is open to everyone interested in the subject, even if they have not read the book. Program supporters include Friends of the Sitka Public Library, Sitka Counseling, Old Harbor Books, SEARHC, Sitka Health Summit Coalition, Sitka Tribe of Alaska’s Social Services Department, and Outer Coast.

Prayer Service Set
St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church will hold a Thanksgiving Day prayer service 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 26.

Teen Pet Parade
Contest is Online
Sitka Public Library’s Teen Advisory Board invites the community to participate on a Library Teen Pet Parade online contest.
Individuals can send a photo of their pet or pets before the winter solstice and board members will announce the winner on Dec. 22.
Photos should be e-mailed to maite.lorente@cityofsitka.org anytime before Dec. 17.
Grab&Go Craft
Program Listed
Sitka Public Library will offer a weekly Grab&Go bag program during December with free crafts for preschoolers.
Bags will be ready every Saturday. Participants can pick them up anytime during the week. Craft projects are best for children age 2 to 5. Registration is required and space is limited. Call 747-4020 to register. Registrations begin on Saturday, Nov. 28.
