Boys Run Event 

Set for Dec. 10

Boys Run I toowú klatseen will hold its end-of-season 5K fun run 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Centennial Hall. Registration is at 9:30 a.m.

Boys Run I toowú klatseen is an after-school program for third- through fifth-grade boys that instills healthy relationships and lifestyle skills through running and other fun activities.

‘‘Come celebrate the participant’s triumphant season with a free fun run through Totem Park,’’ organizers said.

The theme is “Summer in December.” Snacks and an award ceremony will follow the run. Summer-themed costumes are recommended.

Volunteers are needed and appreciated, organizers said. Email amattea@scpsak.org with questions or to volunteer for the event. Boys Run I toowú klatseen is coordinated by the Pathways Coalition.

 

Open Gym for

Community Set

The City and Borough of Sitka Parks and Recreation will hold open skate and open gym on Saturdays, Dec. 3, 10 and 17, at Blatchley Middle School.

Family open roller-skating will be held in the BMS multipurpose room from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., followed by family open gym in the main gym,  3-5 p.m. Open gym punch cards for youths, adults and families will be available for purchase at the Parks and Recreation office located at BMS.

SCLT to Hold

Annual Meeting

The Sitka Community Land Trust will hold its annual meeting 5-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, in person at the Hames corporate office conference room at 208 Lake Street, Suite B.

The public is being encouraged to attend. The SCLT is a non-profit organization that relies on community support and participation. For information about attending the meeting, contact Mim McConnell at 907-738-2888.       

 

Christmas Tree

Sale Saturday

The Sitka High School baseball team will be selling Christmas trees 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday at Sea Mart.

A limited number of trees are available. Trees can be delivered for a donation. It is a fundraiser for the Sitka High baseball team.

 

ANS Christmas

Bazaar Dec. 10

Alaska Native Sisterhood Camp 4 will hold its annual ANS Christmas Bazaar 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Dec. 10 at the ANB Founders Hall.

Artisans, crafters and vendors are invited to rent tables for $35 each. Set up will start at 8:30 a.m. at which time the fee for the tables will be collected. For further information and to reserve a table, call Debe at 783-4323.

 

Wearable Arts

Designers Sought

Wearable Arts is gearing up for the Feb. 4 production and designers are needed to make the show.

Registration closes on Dec. 16. To register a design go to www.sitkaartscouncil.org and go to the Wearable Arts tab.

‘‘It’s quick, easy, your design does not have to be complete to register, and there are no registration fees,’’ organizers said.

Dog Treats Made

In Salmon Series

Earlier this year, Sitka Conservation Society’s Alaska Way of Life 4-H Club learned how to filet salmon in the Spectacular Salmon Series.

The group will use the fish scraps to make dog treats in a session 3:30-5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7.

Candles, Cards

Ages 5-18 are invited to join Sitka Conservation Society’s Alaska Way of Life 4-H Club for a candle and card-making session in preparation for the holiday season.

Youths will create candles and cards using repurposed materials. The session will be 3:30-5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14. Email anna@sitkawild.org for registration and information.

 

Fish and Game

Advisory Meets

The Sitka Fish and Game Advisory Committee will hold a meeting and member election 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, on Zoom, and in the downstairs classroom at Sitka Sound Science Center. 

Agenda items include: North Pacific Fishery Management Council; planning of future AC meeting schedule; establish committee to review Board of Game proposals.

Teen Advisory

Board to Meet

Sitka Public Library’s Teen Advisory Board will meet 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, at the library.

Those 13 to 16 years old can join the TAB. Board members will have exclusive opportunity to help select materials for the library’s collection, plan programs, gain volunteer experience, and promote the library throughout the community. Snacks are provided to all participants.

Advent Activities

At Lutheran Church

Sitka Lutheran Church announces the following Advent activities.

On Wednesdays at 6 p.m. will be Midweek Soup Supper and Advent worship  ‘‘The Gifts of Advent.’’

On Thursdays at 6 p.m. will be Midweek Bible and Art Study, ‘‘The Images of Christmas Cards.’’
