Longtime Sitkan
Jan Nelson Dies
Janette Nelson, a resident for more than 50 years and a longtime president of the White Elephant Shop, passed away Sept. 17 at the Sitka Pioneers Home. She was 81.
An obituary will be published later, her family said.
2 Trails Open at
Sitka National
Historical Park
The Totem Loop Trail and East Entrance Trail at Sitka National Historical Park reopened today during daylight hours.
Trails will revert to being closed each evening.
Park staff is encouraging all park users to be “bear aware” since bears may be present in the park at any time and continue to be present in the park at night.
The Russian Memorial Loop Trail and Riverview Trail will remain closed both day and night until further notice.
Individuals should observe trail postings and temporary closures, as the bear situation could change at any time, the park said.

Music Festival’s
Virtual Concert
To Begin Nov. 12
Sitka Music Festival will present Rob Kapilow with “What Makes It Great?: The music of Cole Porter” in a virtual concert 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12. It is the second concert in the Autumn and Winter Classics concert series.
All concerts are released the second Thursday of the month and will be available for viewing throughout the following weekend.

Land Trust Panel
Meets Nov. 16
The Sitka Community Land Trust will meet 6:15-8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, on a Zoom call.
