Auxiliary Meets

The Sitka Pioneers Home Auxiliary annual meeting will be noon Friday, Nov. 9, in the Gold Miner dining room.

New members are always welcome. Call Linda at 747-5466 with questions.

 

‘Boating Without

The Boys’ Taught

Alaska Marine Safety Education Association will offer an eight-hour workshop for women who are new and not-so-new to operating watercraft,  taught by an all-women team of AMSEA instructors.

‘‘Boating Without The Boys’’ will be held 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Centennial Hall in Room 5. Lunch will be provided. The course will cover safety, survival and navigation. Cost is $100, including tax. The course is appropriate for all levels.

NSRAA Board

Meeting on Tap

Northern Southeast Regional Aquaculture Association Inc. will hold its fall board of directors meeting 9 a.m. Nov. 14-15, 1308 Sawmill Creek Road.

Copies of the agenda will be available in the NSRAA office.

Meetings are open to the public.

 

Wreath, Garland

Sale Under Way

Mt. Edgecumbe Preschool’s wreath and garland sale is under way.

Rustic cedar wreaths, 22 inches, are $35 with a decorative ribbon bow or $33 without. They are noble fir, cedar, juniper berries and pine cones.

A limited quantity of 36-inch wreaths with bows are $90. Cedar garland is $35 for 15 feet and $125 for 75 feet. Garland can be draped around a door, or cut to length.

Wreaths and garland can be picked up 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 24 at the Sitka Counseling Holiday Bazaar, outside Centennial Hall. to place an order call 966-2675 or order online at www.mtedgecumbepreschool.org under special events.

 

Women’s Book

Group to Meet

The Women’s Book Group will meet to discuss ‘‘Anna, Like Thunder,’’ by Peggy Herring 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the Pioneers Home Chapel.

ANS to Meet

Alaska Native Sisterhood Camp 4 will hold its regularly scheduled meeting 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the ANB Founders Hall.

One of the topics will be the first round of nominations for 2019 officers. All are invited to attend.

 

Tongass Forest

Outfitter, Guide

Public Meets Set

The Tongass National Forest will host a series of public meetings this winter on the forest’s northern districts, to collaborate with interested stakeholders on the implementation of outfitter and guide management decisions.

One of the two meeting series is focused on minimizing crowding and conflict between user groups during spring and fall hunting seasons within the Hoonah, Juneau, Sitka and Petersburg Ranger Districts, and Admiralty Island National Monument.

All meetings will be conducted via online webinar format and teleconference. District offices in Juneau, Hoonah, Sitka and Petersburg will be available to participate in person. The Sitka office is at 2108 Halibut Point Road.

Minimizing crowding and conflict meetings are set 2-5 p.m. Nov. 8; and 1-4 p.m. Dec. 20, Jan. 10, 24, Feb. 7 and 21. 

The second meeting series is hosted in cooperation with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. They are focused on the change of ownership process related to guided, brown bear hunting special use authorizations in Game Management Unit 4.

Big game guide change of ownership process meetings are 1-5 p.m. Nov. 15, 29, Dec. 13, Jan. 3, 17 and 25.

An option to connect via Internet and phone is available to those unable to meet in person. Kayak Expedition

Gail Ferris will present her video about ‘‘In Innarsuit Greenland solitary kayak expedition 2008,’’ a carefully-chosen area to escape the now-endless icebergs and fog. The program will be  at 7 p.m., Nov. 7, in Room 108 of the Rasmussen building, 121 John Brady Drive, on the SJ Campus.

 

SCLT to Meet

Sitka Community Land Trust will  meet 6:15-8:15 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19,  at Centennial Hall, Room 7.

‘Sitka’ TV Series

To be Discussed

LA-based filmmaker Rafael Thomaseto will be in Sitka Nov. 7-14 to discuss his upcoming television series, ‘‘Sitka.’’ He will provide details on the upcoming series 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at the Bayview Pub.

The presentation will include a detailing of the show while interacting with locals and integrating their feedback into future plans, a press release said.
