For Kids at Library
Sitka Public Library is offering two Makers workshops 3:45 p.m. Nov. 12 and 19 for ages 8 to 11.
Participants can create original structures with different materials. The workshop is free, registration is required and seats are limited. Families may register at the circulation desk or by calling the library at 747-8708.

Joint Meeting
The Alaska Native Brotherhood/ Alaska Native Sisterhood will have a joint special meeting 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at the ANB Founders Hall.
The purpose of the meeting is to plan the annual Thanksgiving dinner on Nov. 28.
‘‘We cordially invite all who would like to volunteer for this event, especially some good chefs,’’ organizers said.

Annual Turkey
Shoot Planned
Sitka Sportsman’s Association will hold its annual Turkey Shoot 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16. The longtime Sitka Sportsman’s Association annual event is for both the outdoor shotgun trap and skeet, plus the indoor .22 pistol and rifle shoot.
No experience is necessary and non-members can participate. Anyone hitting a particular colored clay target during a normal round of trap or skeet or winning one of the .22 pistol events will win a turkey (or a coupon for a free round of trap or skeet). There is a limit of one turkey or coupon per shooter. The cost per round of trap or skeet is $20, and $5 per pistol event. Both fees include ammunition. Loaner shotguns and pistols will be available for use at no charge.
Babies and Books
Event is Nov. 23
Sitka Babies and Books will observe Native American Heritage Month with an event 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at Sitka Public Library.
Babies, toddlers and preschoolers can attend a morning of dances, songs and oral storytelling with Chuck Miller and the Gajaa Heen Dancers.

Wreaths, Garlands
Sale is Underway
Orders are being taken for the annual Mt. Edgecumbe Preschool wreath and garland sale.
Rustic cedar wreaths, 22 inches, are $40 with a decorative ribbon bow or $38 without. A limited quantity of a 36-inch extra-large rustic wreaths with bows are $95. A cedar garland is $40 for 15 feet or $125 for 75-foot lengths. The cedar garland can be draped around a door or both can be cut to length. The 22-inch rustic cedar wreaths are made of noble fir, cedar with juniper berries and pine cones.
Wreaths and garland will be available for pick-up 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at the Sitka Counseling Holiday Bazaar outside the Harrigan Centennial Building.

Baby Raven
Reads Nov. 9
Alaska Native families with children up to age 5 are invited to attend Sealaska Heritage’s Baby Raven Reads 10 a.m.-noon Nov. 9 at Sitka Head Start.
It includes storytelling, songs and other cultural and literacy activities. Families can enroll at the event.

Health Insurance
To help community members navigate the Affordable Care Act Health Insurance Marketplace during open enrollment, SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium Patient Health Benefits Manager Andrea Thomas is offering a free presentation 4-5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Sitka Public Library.
ACA open enrollment lasts only six weeks, Nov. 1-Dec. 15.
Thomas will discuss and answer questions about applying for insurance on the Health Insurance Marketplace, common challenges, and how to enroll. She also will discuss other coverage options like Medicaid eligibility and Health Care Sharing Ministries.
“People have six weeks to renew or apply for coverage on the Health Insurance Marketplace for a Jan. 1 start,” Thomas said. “This is your only time to enroll in health insurance if you are not offered employer coverage or eligible for Medicaid/Medicare. I encourage people to come to the presentation to learn more about their options and find out how to get free local assistance.”

The White Elephant is once again accepting donations during store hours. Donations can be left only noon-3 p.m. Thursdays and Saturdays and 6-8 p.m. Mondays.
Baseball Club
Cage Sessions On
Cage sessions for Sitka Baseball Club members began Tuesday and will continue 4:45-6:15 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Moller batting cage.
At this time, sessions are geared for ages 13-18; however, more coaches will be organizing the minors and majors (small diamond) for ages 8-12.
A full calendar and registration forms are available at www.sitkabaseballclub.com. Players should have the registration forms filled out and a check for $75 dues plus $50 for 10 punch card, or $100 for 20 punch card ready.

Sitkan Named
To State Board
Garry White of Sitka has been named to the state Marine Transportation Advisory Board.
Gov. Michael J. Dunleavy announced the appointment Tuesday.
White will serve through Sept. 12, 2021.
