Youth Advocates
Youth Advocates of Sitka will hold a to-go ‘‘Spookgetti Fundraiser Dinner’’ dinner 5-7 p.m. Oct. 21.

Rotary Citywide
Cleanup Event Set
All are invited to join the Sitka Rotary Club at its annual fall litter cleanup.
Rain or shine, the event will run 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Totem Square, across from City Hall. Participants are asked to take gloves, bags, buckets and pickers if possible. If not, some will be provided.
Trick-or-Treating
Event Downtown
Downtown Trick-or-Treating will be 4-6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, along Lincoln Street.
The street is closed to offer a safe space for children to trick-or-treat each year. Businesses are encouraged to remain open to distribute candy to trick-or-treaters.
Businesses may also choose to sponsor the event by purchasing a sponsorship package online, or dropping off pre-packaged Halloween candy to the Chamber of Commerce office at 104 Lake Street. All sponsorship funds will go towards purchasing candy to distribute to the downtown businesses for the event.
Sprockets Bike
Club Gathers
Youths ages 7 to 12 are invited to the Salty Spoke 3:30-5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, for the first monthly bike maintenance and use workshops.

Family Running
Club Organizes
Families and youths of all ages are invited to a family run to prepare for the Whalefest 5K in November. Participants will meet 5:30-6:30 p.m. Oct. 18 and 25 at Kimsham ball fields for a light warm up, run/jog/walk, and healthy stretch.

‘Salmon’ Subject
Of Youth Series
Ages 7 and older are invited to join the AK Way of Life Club to celebrate the gift of salmon in the community.
In a three-part series, youths will learn the ecology of salmon, practice their fileting skills, create reflective art, and connect with local community members.
Sessions will be 3-4:30 p.m. Oct. 12, 19 and 26. Room 29 at Keet Gooshi Heen Elementary school will be home base, but the location may vary depending on the program for the day. Location changes will be communicated at least two days in advance of the session. Room 29 will be open with a 4-H volunteer at 2:40 p.m.

Early Dismissal
For Alaska Day
The Sitka School District announces that all schools will be dismissed early on Tuesday, October 18, for Alaska Day. Lunch will be served before dismissal.
Schools will be dismissed as follows: first grade bus pick-up, 11:45 a.m.; kindergarten parent pick-up, noon; grades 2-5, noon; Pacific High School, 12:30 p.m.; Blatchley Middle School, 12:45 p.m.; and Sitka High School, 12:50 p.m.
Pumpkin Patch
Event Oct. 22
At AC Lakeside
The 3 to 5 Preschool’s annual Pumpkin Patch will be held 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the AC Lakeside parking lot, rain or shine.
AC Lakeside is sponsoring the event and will be giving each child a free mini pumpkin, while supplies last.
Everyone can walk through Mr. Scarecrow’s Pumpkin Patch and select pumpkins to purchase. All of the proceeds from the sales of pumpkins will be donated to 3 to 5 Preschool.
Fall-themed family photos will be offered. A few backdrops and prop options will be available to those who wish to take their own photos, free of charge.
A special drawing will be held for a one-hour bouncy house session for an elementary-school child and five friends, courtesy of Sitka FastPitch.
Each pumpkin purchase will earn an entry for the drawing. Food and beverages will be available to purchase.
The event is sponsored by AC Lakside, Sitka Bottling, Sitka Swirls and Sitka FastPitch.
Free Medicare,
Social Security
Presentation Set
SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium and Cynthia Gibson, CFP® with Way Finder Wealth, invite Sitkans to attend a free joint presentation addressing questions about Medicare and Social Security retirement benefits 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at Centennial Hall. Lunch is included.
‘‘It is common for people to be unsure of their Medicare options, the coverage they need, and when they should sign up to begin receiving Social Security benefits,’’ said Susan Briles, a Certified Medicare Counselor with Patient Health Benefits at SEARHC.
Briles will speak about Medicare options and avoiding common pitfalls and penalties.
Cynthia Gibson will speak about how to make the most of the Social Security benefits available. Both will be available for questions following their presentations.
