Overdue Boaters Need No Rescue

By Sentinel Staff

A brief Coast Guard search for an overdue skiff with four people aboard south of Ketchikan early Wednesday was called off after the boaters reported they were safe and sound.

Coast Guard Air Station Sitka received the report of the overdue boaters at 3 a.m. and launched at 3:22 a.m. after the family reported the group overdue in the Percy Islands area south of Ketchikan.

The boaters called family around 5 a.m. reporting they had decided to stay out longer but forgotten to advise others of their plans, the Coast Guard said. The helicopter returned to Sitka.
