Pickup Hits Walker on Bike Path

A woman walking on the Sawmill Creek Road bike path was injured around 7:45 a.m. today when she was struck by a pickup truck, police said. The 50-year-old accident victim was medevacked for treatment of her injuries.

Police said the pickup driver was outbound in the 1200 block of Sawmill Creek Road, when she ran off the road and hit the woman on the bike path.

The site of the accident was just before the highway crossing to the post office.

Police said the driver of the pickup was a 45-year-old woman, and that both she and the injured pedestrian are  Sitka residents.

An investigation into the accident is underway, the department said.
