The Planning Commission heard an update Wednesday on the closure of Lincoln Street on high-volume cruise ship passenger days.
Also at the meeting, the commission unanimously passed three items of business, including a short-term rental permit, a platting variance regarding access and utility easements, and a preliminary plat for a minor subdivision.
In the planning director’s resport, Amy Ainslie reminded the commission that the first closure of Lincoln Street under the Short-Term Tourism Plan will take place this Saturday, May 7. The next closure date will be the following Monday, May 9.
Ainslie said the public works department is doing “an incredible amount of work” to ensure the closure goes smoothly.
The short-term rental permit was issued to Jon Martin for his single-family house at 108 Nancy Court in the R-1 single family and duplex residential district.
Martin told the commission that he and his wife plan to rent the property out short-term regularly beginning next summer, and that they would manage the property.
Commissioners raised concerns over the potential for a problem in the management when both Martin and his wife are out of town.
Martin and Ainslie agreed informally to work together outside the meeting to establish a third contact to cover those periods, but no condition of approval was added to the permit.
Commissioner Darrell Windsor asked Martin whether his decision to seek the permit was influenced by the short-term rental moratorium that failed to pass the Assembly last month. Martin declined to answer.
A platting variance to exceed the number of lots to be served via easements for access and utilities within a minor subdivision at 107 Mary’s Court in the C-1 general commercial district was issued to Ron Davison.
City code allows for up to four lots to be served by private utility and access easements. The variance will allow the property at 107 Mary’s Court to be the sixth lot using the private utility easement and the fifth lot to use the existing access easement.
A preliminary plat was approved at 107 Mary’s Court creating a separate lot for a house on the northern half of the lot being subdivided. The smaller lot is 6,698 square feet and will not create any nonconformities, the commission was told.
