Planners Say OK to Setback

The Planning Commission Wednesday night unanimously approved a variance to reduce a front setback to zero feet.

Chris Spivey, Stacy Mudry, Wendy Alderson, and Katie Riley were in attendance at the scheduled meeting in Centennial Hall. Darrell Windsor was absent.

The variance request was the panel’s only evening business.

It was issued to applicant Raymond Wampler, who owns the property at 5318 Halibut Point Road, in an R-1 single family and duplex residential district.

The variance issued Wednesday is the third Wampler has received. All three have reduced the lot’s front setback, first from 14 to 6 feet, then to 3.33 feet, and now to zero feet.

The commission had unanimously approved both of Wampler’s prior variance requests.

The second two variance requests — including Wednesday’s — arose as Wampler has continued to work on the duplex. He said Wednesday that after pouring the foundation, it appeared that without the variance the trim and some of the roof would encroach on the front setback.
