A first step toward building a new clan house in the Sitka Indian Village will be taken Saturday at a fundraiser.
The Kiks.ádi Point House restoration fundraiser dinner will start at 6:30 p.m. at Odess Theater on the SJ campus.
Jerrick Hope-Lang, 41, who lives in Juneau, worked through the process of repatriating the property at 226 Katlian Street, the location of the former Point House, which was torn down in 1997.

Hope-Lang, a Point House descendant, was born and raised in Sitka and would like to see the clan house built.
The goal of Saturday’s event is to raise $25,000, to match $25,000 in a Preserve Alaska grant, all of which would go toward the pre-development costs of the project.
“That is for our architects, engineer, permitting and any legal work that we need,” Hope-Lang said.
The event includes dinner with guest chef Amara Enciso of Jorgensen House, live music from Juneau Maridon and the Prime Cuts. Hope-Lang is also donating some of his Dale DeArmond prints for the auction, and others have donated Native art and jewelry for the event.
“We’re just in the preliminary historic research phase,” said Shannon Crossley, an architect with NorthWind Architects of Juneau. “Right now we’re looking for historic photos of the village.”
Also working on the project for NorthWind is Naailkh DeAsis, a Tlingit architecture student from Angoon.
Tickets are $75 and available at Old Harbor Books, and through bit.ly/pointhousedinner. Any leftover tickets will be available at the door.
A no-host bar will be sponsored by Mean Queen, Harbor Mountain Brewery and Port Chilkoot Distillery.
Other sponsors include Alaska Seaplanes, Sea Mart and the Hames Corporation, Central Council of Tlingit & Haida, and Sitka Sound Seafoods.
