Baranof Elementary School went on “stay put” for about three hours today after police notified it a man being sought in a domestic violence incident might be passing by the area.
Principal Jill Lacrone said the outside doors were locked but school went on as usual, from about 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
“We followed procedure, and everyone stayed calm, cool and collected,” Lacrone said, adding that the school has practiced responses to security threats.
Police said the man, who had been seen with a knife earlier, was found on a city bus and arrested about 2:20 p.m. He had knives in his possession, police said. He was to be charged in the domestic violence case later today.
