On Chancellor’s List
Rachel Larson of Sitka has been named to the University of Alaska Fairbanks chancellor’s lists for summer.
Students receiving a 3.9 grade-point average or higher earn placement on the chancellor’s list.
Farmers Market
Season to Close
It’s the last week to order produce this summer from the Sitka Farmers Market, with the online order period open through 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17.
The last pickup event will be 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Sept. 19, at St. Peter’s Fellowship Farm (behind St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, 611 Lincoln Street).
Sitka Local Foods Network will be selling small farmer’s choice boxes featuring a variety of seasonal produce for $20 and $40 each. The large baskets will include two to three additional varieties besides what’s in the small box. Sometimes an abundance of a certain crop will be offered as a special batch that week.

GPIP Board Meets
Gary Paxton Industrial Park board will meet 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at
Centennial Hall in Room 6. Agenda items include plans to build a new boat haulout at the park.
ANS to Meet
On Sept. 21
Alaska Native Sisterhood Camp 4 will hold an in-person meeting 5:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, at the ANB Founders Hall.
The meeting will include the second round of nominations for ANS officers. Anyone wanting to know more about ANS and how to serve the community is welcome to attend the meeting.

Panel to Meet
The Human Services Transportation Committee will meet virtually 3:30-4:40 p.m. Sept. 17.
Agenda items include discussion of transportation needs of human service agency clients and any other members of public. The public is invited to attend or testify.

Youth Soccer
Registration Set
Registration for the fall soccer season is open for youths in kindergarten through 10th grades. The season runs 3-4:30 p.m. Sundays Sept. 20-Nov. 15 on the upper Moller turf field.
Start times will stagger depending on age group. The registration fee is $45 which includes a jersey with the Sitka Youth Soccer logo and a soccer balls. Financial assistance is available.
COVID-19 safety measures are in place, based on the protocols from the Alaska Schools Activities Association and the Sitka School District.

Group to Meet

UAS Lecture Series
Continues Friday
The annual UAS fall lecture series continues 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, with a virtual presentation by Derek Sikes, curator of insects and professor of entomology.
His talk, “Climate Change Impacts on Insects in Alaska and Globally,” will review studies relevant to understanding the impact of climate change on the global arthropod fauna and that of Alaska.
This year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Fall Lecture Series events will be offered virtually using Zoom. Each talk has a free registration link listed below, and also available on the UAS Juneau campus calendar uas.alaska.edu/calendar. After completing the registration, a confirmation email is sent with information on how to join the meeting.
