Life Celebration
For Krist Martinsen
A celebration of Krist Martinsen’s life will be 1-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Odess Theater upstairs in the Del Shirley room on the SJ Campus.
Attendees will have a chance to share their stories and have light refreshments.
Mountain Goat
Hunt Zones Closed
Two mountain goat harvest areas have been closed, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game reports.
The Red Bluff Bay Zone of the Unit 4 registration mountain goat hunt on Baranof Island (RG150) and Upper Benzeman Zone of the Unit 4 registration mountain goat hunt on Baranof Island (RG150) will close as of 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, by emergency order.
Those portions of Unit 4 not affected by this emergency order will remain open until harvest quotas are reached or the season concludes.

Winter Hours
At National Park
The Russian Bishop’s House will be open intermittently Oct. 1-18. Individuals should call the visitor center to inquire about the daily schedule.
After Alaska Day, the Russian Bishop’s House will be on winter hours and free tours will be available by advance reservation as staffing allows.
The visitor center at Sitka National Historical Park will transition to its winter season operations on Monday, Oct. 1. Hours of operation will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.

Fair Trade Fair
Slated Oct. 13
St. Peter’s will host the 13th annual Fair Trade Fair 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, in the See House behind the church at 611 Lincoln Street.
The merchandise is from SERRV – an organization that strives to alleviate poverty by providing a market for artisans in developing countries. Purchases of these gifts will help people in small villages around the world and a number of charitable organizations in Sitka and Alaska.
Summer Troll
Fishery Extended
The Southeast/Yakutat commercial troll fishery has been extended through 11:59 p.m. Sept. 30 to the retention of all species except Chinook salmon, with a few restrictions.
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game said the extension is being implemented in areas where it has projected coho salmon escapement goals will be met, and fish in excess of escapement needs are available.
The 2018 Summer Troll Fishery Management Plan is available at all regional offices and on the troll website at: http://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=commercialbyareasoutheast.salmon_trollsummer. It includes all open areas.
The winter troll fishery will open according to regulation at 12:01 a.m. Oct. 11. Its management plan will be available by early October.
