Sought by City
The City and Borough of Sitka is seeking seven volunteers to serve on the newly formed Sustainability Commission.
Membership is to include – to the extent deemed advisable by the Assembly and possible from the applicants – at least one individual with background or training as a sustainability professional and at least one individual of Alaska Native heritage with understanding and appreciation of the historical importance of sustainability on Tlingit Aaní.
‘‘It is the intent of the commission to work towards catalyzing a healthy community now and in the future by proposing solutions to environmental, social, and economic concerns of the CBS, its partners, and community members,’’ the city said.
Members will be appointed at the Oct. 11 Assembly meeting.
Applications are available online at www.cityofsitka.com or at the municipal clerk’s office in City Hall, 100 Lincoln Street. Applications must be submitted to the municipal clerk’s office no later than noon on Monday, Oct. 3.

Scholarship Benefit
At AC Lakeside
The Tulong Aral Scholarship is partnering with AC Lakeside in a “roundup at the register” program from now until Oct. 31.
Give a donation at the register and AC Lakeside will match it. All proceeds benefit the Tulong Aral Scholarship, a scholarship for Sitka School District students of Filipino heritage. Donations also are being accepted online at www.sitkakids.com.
