Dies at Age 52

Frank Neil Kimball, the son of Shirley and Ken Kimball, died Monday at the age of 52.

An obituary will be published later.

 

 

Roger Sams, 81,

Dies in Anchorage

Roger Charles Sams, 81, of Juneau passed away on Aug. 25 in Anchorage.

No services will be held. 

 

 

Seafood Symphony

Event Postponed

The Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation has postponed its Symphony of Seafood call for product. 

The event, originally scheduled for November, is canceled due to the ongoing health and safety issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, a press release from AFDF said.

Rescheduling for the event is planned for the spring, with the call for product to be reissued early next year.

Municipal Election

Updates are Given

Sitka’s municipal election is Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Centennial Hall.

Eligible voters may choose to vote: by mail; advanced in-person at Harrigan Centennial Hall, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays Sept. 21-Oct. 5, in meeting rooms 2 and 3); by fax; personal representative; and in-person 7 a.m.-8 p.m. on Election Day at Harrigan Centennial Hall.

Applications to vote by-mail must be received by the Municipal Clerk’s Office no later than Sept. 29. Absentee by-mail and advanced in-person ballots will be counted beginning Oct. 7 at Harrigan Centennial Hall.

The city reminds those who asked for ballots by mail for the general election they need to fill out another form for the municipal election.

The Sitka Homeless Coalition will hold its monthly meeting via Zoom 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24. Call 747-7978 for information on how to join the meeting. All are invited to attend.

 

Gathering Sept. 27

For Neil Huff, 68

A celebration of life for Neil James Huff, who passed away peacefully on Aug. 29 shortly after being diagnosed with cancer, will be 3-6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, under the main shelter at Halibut Point Recreation Area.

Food will be provided. Masks and social distancing are encouraged.

 

 

Registration Open

For Keet Kids Run

Registration is open for Keet Kids Run I toowú klatseen, a virtual after-school program for students in second through fifth grades to help build self-esteem, healthy relationship skills, and respect.

The program, rooted in Southeast Alaska traditional tribal values and culture, will prompt students to get moving with physical exercise, create art, journal and other activities.
