Project Updated:

The Sawmill Creek Road Resurfacing and Pedestrian Improvements project website has been updated with the following information for this week:

Permanent construction signs will be installed throughout the project area. And sidewalks will be graded.

Beginning Saturday, Oct. 1, paving is scheduled for asphalt pathways and driveways at 30 locations on Sawmill Creek Road. If weather delays occur, paving will extend into the following week and continue until complete.

As a reminder for displaced residents, designated parking 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. is in the city lot off of Baranof Street.

The following bus stops have been relocated on Sawmill Creek Road:

The Biorka Street bus stop has been relocated to the entrance of the recycling center on Sawmill Creek Road (about 80 feet past the end-of-project location around Jeff Davis Street).

The Baranof Street bus stop has been relocated to the corner of DeGroff Street and Baranof Street.

The city lot on Baranof Street is being shared with school staff and residents.

Bingocize Activity

Slated for Fridays

A new Bingocize activity will be held 1-2 p.m. Fridays, Oct. 14-Dec. 16, at the ANB Founders Hall and via Zoom.

Center for Community, SAIL, SEARHC, the State of Alaska and Brave Heart Volunteers will sponsor  the free event.

Bingocize was developed by Dr. Jason Crandall as a ‘‘fun and affordable way to improve health and quality of life while reducing the risk of falling,’’ organizers said. ‘‘Over 13 million adults 65 years of age and older will fall this year. The good news is the effective health promotion programs like Bingocize can help build balance and reduce falls.’’
