Day on Sept. 22
World Car-Free Day is Wednesday, Sept. 22 with people around the globe commuting without a motorized vehicle.
In Sitka, residents who commute on foot, bike and without a car on that day can enter a raffle for a $150 gift card from the Yellow Jersey Cycle Shop. Other prize categories include most non-motorized miles logged, biggest haul, and first car-free day commuted in more than a year. Enter at Yellow Jersey by 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24. Markets Left
In 2021 Season
Two Sitka Farmers Markets are left this season, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11 and 18, on the plaza outside Harrigan Centennial Hall.
‘‘Farmers markets are considered essential businesses, even during a pandemic, and they’re a great way to support local food and the local economy,’’ the Sitka Local Foods Network said.
Due to recent COVID-19 cases in Sitka, customers and vendors are to wear masks at the market to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
More vendors are being recruited for the last two markets. They can register and pay fees online at https://sitkafarmersmarket.eventsmart.com.
‘Shop of Horrors’
Musical Staged
Sitka Fine Arts Camp will present the smash hit musical ‘‘Little Shop of Horrors’’ Oct. 1-3 at the Sitka Performing Arts Center.
Performance times are 7 p.m. Friday, 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
The show will feature professional actors from the San Francisco Bay Area along with local performers.
With crowd-pleasers like “Feed Me,” “Suddenly Seymour” and “Be a Dentist,” the show is sure to delight audiences of all ages, organizers said.
Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required for ages 12 and older for entry to the performance. All patrons must be masked at all times while at the PAC. Tickets are available at www.fineartscamp.org/shows.
ANS to Meet
The Alaska Native Sisterhood Camp 4 will meet 11 a.m. Sept 9 at the ANB Founders Hall for the second round of nominations for ANS officers.
Current members can attend. It is open to the public. Membership dues must be paid to nominate and vote at the meeting. Those with questions may call Lena Lauth, ANS secretary, at 623-7113 or AnnMarie Johnson, treasurer, 738-7681.
LOOM, WOTM
Meetings on Tap
The Loyal Order of Moose and Women of the Moose have scheduled upcoming meetings.
Moose officers meet at 6:30 p.m. followed by a general members meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. Lodge meetings are the second and fourth Wednesday of each month.
Women meet monthly on the second Monday at 6:30 p.m. On Sept. 13 the agenda will be plans for Alaska Day, downtown trick-or-treating and upcoming holidays. Members can also join by phone, call 752-0306.
All members are being asked for donations of halibut for the annual Alaska Day fish-and-chips fundraiser. Also needed are donations of candy. Bags can be dropped off at the lodge.
