Katlian Street
Remains Closed
Katlian Street in the 400 block remains closed until further notice.
The City and Borough of Sitka Fire Department, Police Department, and Public Works closed the 300 to 500 blocks of Katlian Street from pedestrian and vehicular traffic due to a vacant home that has partially collapsed.
As a reminder, the city said Kaagwaantaan Street is a one-way street and is not to be used as a bypass for the closed roadway.
‘‘Please avoid the area and obey all project signage,’’ the city said.
Climate Group
Meets Saturday
After a summer off, Sitka’s Citizens Climate Lobby is meeting again by Zoom. The next gathering is 9:45-11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11.
‘‘We are a nonpartisan group delighted that the Senate Finance Committee is discussing a carbon fee and dividend to protect needy Americans in the Reconciliation Bill,’’ the group said. ‘‘A gradually increasing fee on fossil fuel producers will lower greenhouse gases emitted by burning gas, coal, and oil and stimulate investment in renewable energies.’’
At 9 a.m., prior to the local meeting, the national speaker will discuss how border carbon tariffs work.
For the zoom link, email Sitkaclimatelobby@gmail.com by Friday at 9 p.m.
2 Sitka Farmers
Markets Left
In 2021 Season
Two Sitka Farmers Markets are left this season, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11 and 18, on the plaza outside Harrigan Centennial Hall.
‘‘Farmers markets are considered essential businesses, even during a pandemic, and they’re a great way to support local food and the local economy,’’ the Sitka Local Foods Network said.
Due to recent COVID-19 cases in Sitka, customers and vendors are to wear masks at the market to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
More vendors are being recruited for the last two markets. They can register and pay fees online at https://sitkafarmersmarket.eventsmart.com.
