Shee Atiká Inc. announced today that an Anchorage businessman, Karl Potts, has been hired as the urban Native corporation’s next president and CEO.
He will take the helm Dec. 16, Shee Atiká said in a news release. Potts will replace Dr. Ken Cameron, who has served as Shee Atiká’s president and CEO since 2010.
Potts has lived and worked in Alaska for almost 30 years managing public, private and Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act companies, the news release said.

His experience includes leading companies’ operations and business development in a number of industry sectors involving real estate, homeland security, energy, information technology and health communications, Shee Atiká said. He has also managed multimillion-dollar programs involving construction, logistics, and health and outreach services in the public health, justice and tribal engagement sectors.
He has a bachelor of science degree in forest engineering and a master of business administration degree, both of them from Oregon State University.
Potts currently lives in Anchorage and will relocate to Sitka.
Dr. Pamela Steffes, chairman of Shee Atiká’s board, said in the news release, “Shee Atiká conducted a nationwide search over the past several months to find Karl. We are excited about the future of Shee Atiká and its subsidiaries under Karl’s leadership.”
Shee Atiká is the Sitka urban corporation organized under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act for Alaska Natives historically residing in Sitka. It currently has just over 3,400 shareholders.
