Sitka Again in 'High' Range of Virus Alert

Posted

By Sentinel Staff

Sitka tipped back into the red with two more COVID cases added to its weekly count.

The nine positive tests over seven days puts Sitka at a case rate of 105.6, just in the “high” alert range of 100 and up.

Sitka has been bouncing in and out of high and substantial - the next level down - in the past week. Four cases added November 15 and two more on Wednesday.

Only a few communities are out of high alert at this time: Skagway is at low (blue), the end of the Aleutians is in moderate (yellow), and Haines and Juneau are at substantial (orange). The rest of the state is in the high risk range.

The state update from the Department of Health and Social Services says 60 percent of those age 5 and up in Alaska have received at least their first vaccine dose, and 55 percent are “fully vaccinated.”

In Sitka, it’s 80 percent of the age 5 and up population with one dose, and 75 percent “fully vaccinated.” The DHSS figure for “all ages” in Sitka is 76 percent with at least one dose and 71 percent fully vaccinated.
