Longtime Sitka lawyer Christine Pate has received the Alaska Bar Foundation’s Rabinowitz Public Service Award.
She is the first Sitkan to receive the statewide award.
“It’s lovely to be recognized,” she told the Sentinel. “It’s humbling, and I feel very honored.”

The award recognizes Pate’s work in public service. It’s named for Alaska Supreme Court Justice Jay Rabinowitz, who served on the court from 1965 until 1997. He died in 2001.
Pate has practiced law a little over 25 years, and has spent the last 22 running a legal program for the Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.
Pate has also spent time at Alaska Legal Services in Fairbanks, and has served as director of the SAFV shelter.
Pate graduated cum laude from the New York University School of Law. She first came to Alaska in 1993, and clerked for Sitka Superior Court Judge Larry Zervos.
She and her husband, Superior Court Judge Jude Pate, have two sons: Will is currently campaign manager for incumbent House Rep. Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins; and Joe is attending Brown University.
