Following is a list of events canceled and places closed because of the COVID-19 emergency, as reported to the Sentinel.
The city has postponed the annual Spring Cleanup and Household Hazardous Waste Collection.
Sitkans Against Family Violence business offices are closed; however, the shelter is open. Call 747-3370.
Sheldon Jackson Museum is closed to foot traffic. Staff is accessible by phone, 747-8904, and web. Friends of the Sheldon Jackson Museum postponed an April 4 auction.
Alaska Department of Fish and Game offices are closed. Staff is available by phone and online.
Ocean Wave Quilters canceled the April 7 meeting and April 11 open sewing session.
St. Peter’s Episcopal Church suspended services and plans to offer services online through Zoom. Email stpetersbytheseak@ gmail.com.
Sitka Sportsman’s Association ranges are closed.
Greater Sitka Arts Council events are canceled.
Sitka Job Center is closed to foot traffic. Staff will meet with individuals via phone, email, SARA or mail.

The city’s utility payment office is closed; billing, payment and utility account setup and closure services are available by calling 747-1818. Payments – other than cash – can be left in the drop box outside city hall.
Sitka Police Department suspended non-emergency services and limited public access to the department. The front door is locked. For non-emergencies call 747-3245.
Sitka Tribe of Alaska offices are closed, and the April 7-9 Heritage and Cultural Tourism Conference is canceled. Call 747-3207 for info on the food pantry and financial assistance.
Sitka Sound Science Center is closed at least through March 31. Staff will be working in a remote capacity. Use individual email address or contact information@sitkascience.org.
Sitka Kitch has postponed all events through March.
The Good News Club has canceled until schools are back in session.
Sitka Youth Soccer spring season is on hold until further notice.
Southeast Alaska Independent Living is closed for in-person service. Call 747-6859 for information.
Sitka Pregnancy Center postponed its Lamps and Lampshades Art Auction Gala, originally set March 28.
Sitka Cancer Survivors Society canceled its March 29 meeting.
The RIDE public transit system continues to operate at this time. Route service may change.

Alaska Marine Safety Education Assoc. canceled its March 20 and 28 first aid and CPR classes, and the March 21 Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor class.

The Salvation Army Little Store is open 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
